CERAMIC FAQ
-
Each ceramic bird is unique - hand-formed and individually crafted, with natural variation in shape, surface, and character from piece to piece.
-
Most birds are approximately 20cm x 20cm. If you have a preference for a specific style or pose, photos of individual pieces are available on request prior to shipping.
-
Each bird is hand-sculpted from clay, then a plaster mould is made from the original. Liquid clay is poured into the mould to create a replica, which is then fettled - meaning the finishing details like beaks, wattles, and eye rings are carefully added by hand. The birds are bisque fired at 1000°C before being glazed and underglazed, then returned to the kiln for a final firing at 1250°C.
-
All birds are designed and made by Jack in his studio in Arrowtown, New Zealand - 100% New Zealand made.
